About Mark Lander and the Critter

Hi, welcome to the page that lets you know all about us,  my name is Mark Lander, and here you can see my workshop which actually is an old sheep shearing shed.     Brr,    freezing cold in Winter and boiling hot in Summer.  The walls are full of holes and the wind whistles on through,     I love it!

All the Critters are made by hand here in Loburn, New Zealand, all the metal casting,   lathe work and fabrication, the sewing of the soft PVC tubs,   grinding in and testing,   packing and sending.

We do have alot of fun here,   sing along to the radio, or watch an old TV in the corner as you work,   if you are lucky you may see a fantail bird flitting through the workshop,   and Starlings nesting in the eaves.

Making these machines is messy work,  on the lathe, huge curling shavings of aluminum,  stainless steel and plastic fly up and festoon the walls like spiders webs,  sparks fly from huge grinders like fireworks, you had better wear ear protectors because this is noisy, screetching sheetmetal through a bandsaw, whirring drills, popping of rivet guns,   laughing  children,   off key singing,   Hey,  its ok, we don’t have many neighbours out here in the country,  ‘Keep it down please,  do you know how far your noise travels on a quiet frosty night!!???’

The Critter Project has been running for the last ten years, and we are up to machine number 270, they have travelled all around the world, one has even gone up the Amazon in a canoe!
